Sometimes kids and teens need more than just a few outings with police officers. Sometimes they need a friend and a role model. Sometimes they need a mentor. The Cops and Kids Mentor Program pairs a youth with one or more police officers from their community. Participants act as volunteers for Cops and Kids outings and learn how to be mentors themselves. They learn their actions have consequences on their community, family and future.
Some departments use our mentor program for at-risk youths or as an alternative to prosecution. Others use the program for youths who have experienced a family or life crisis and just need a little extra guidance. In either case, officers work closely with the participants to help them avoid dangers, bust through adversity, get hooked on positive choices and stay on target.
